Job Information

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the challenges of the job are:

  • Create and implement a communication plan for the MMBC;
  • Consults the three member communities, Band Councils, and Gespe’gewa’gi business communities;
  • Create positive relationships through clear and informative dialogue;
  • To gather, synthesize, distribute and publish information using the most effective communication means;
  • Actively participate in the development and implementation of MMBC communication goals and strategies;
  • Implementing a communication plan and adapting as needed;
  • Ensure coordination and communication of messages/news to both internal and external audiences;
  • Manage day-to-day media relations/media requests;
  • Build relationships with key media contacts and identify opportunities to actively promote our programs and services of the MMBC;
  • Edit all publications for MMBC;
  • Create, maintain and update information on the organization’s website;
  • Manage and update information, and engage using social media;
  • Create and follow a communication budget; and
  • Other tasks related to the MMBC objectives, and tasks assigned by his/her immediate supervisor.

Qualifications required:

  • A University Degree or combination of a College Diploma and related work experience in Public Relations, Communications, Journalism or Marketing; and
  • Minimum three (3) years communications or public relations experience.

Profile of the ideal candidate:

  • Good knowledge of Mi’gmaq communities and Band Councils (social, culture, governance and traditions);
  • High level of initiative and judgment;
  • Professional, respectful and diplomatic personality;
  • Excellent communication and public speaking skills;
  • Process improvement driven and solution oriented;
  • Software: Word, Excel,  Power Point, InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator;
  • Understand marketing, communications and business principles;
  • Able to work with diverse personalities and styles;
  • Bilingualism (English and French) is a must; knowledge of Mi’gmaq is an asset; must be willing to learn the Mi’gmaq Language and take part in Mi’gmaq Language classes;
  • Knowledge of website design and social media; and
  • Knowledge of press conference organization and press releases

Remuneration:

According to Salary Scale of MMBC
